I forgot until tonight that my car requires 91 or above. I’ve been so overcome with joy since regular is$1.69 (or cheaper) that I felt safe...and secure...and not poor forgetting thinking when I had to fill my car up that it wouldn’t be expensive. Then I went to Exxon tonight and paid $40 and change for 13 gallons of gas.

To all gas stations in my area:

Is it August yet? I can’t wait for her to be gone (hopefully)

It’s still sitting at $2.2o for regular here but premium is still .20 more a gallon just like it usually is.

I wonder what their justification is? Other than the obvious “we want to make as much money as possible.”

Gadzooks. Look into Costco if you have one nearby; ours has a great price on 93. Depending on all the variables, it might even be worth it to get the $55 membership if you aren’t a member already. They have booze too!

Surely not every station in the area has that much of a markup for premium. That’s insane.

yeah I ran Costco gas once in my TL and it knocked about 40 miles off my normal tank, plus they closed at 6 tonight :(

Funny enough...drove by 1 Exxon (regular was 1.69, 93 was $2.89), 1 Sunoco (regular was $1.79, 93 was $2.89), and a Luk Oiil (same as Exxon) till i finally had to get gas at the Exxon ($1.79 regular and $2.88 for 93)

I didn’t have any issues with mpg and it was 2.02 for premium (91 here) last time I stopped. Totally worth it.

Holy fuck, regular is 1.69 for you? It costs 2.59 at least for regular in California....

it seems like the gap between regular and premium is really high. Didn’t it used to be only $0.20-0.30?

Similar by me. I paid $1.85 for regular today. But 93 at the station was $2.35... I remember when it went up in 10 cent increments. I was shocked.

Also, I love (and kinda hate) how small the C30 tank is. 12 gallons is all it takes.

The S60 on the other hand is a 17 gallon beast

Man, I would politely kill someone for the chance to fill my tank on premium for $40...

It’s $1.359 per litre here, and filling my 20 gallon (75 litre) tank from absolute empty to full would be $102

Only Cali, Alaska, and Hawaii have 87 priced over $2.00 at the minimum

Every other state in the country has at least one gas station that people can reference to having seen gas for less than $2

I felt the same way until my recent 1,400 mile road trip. My car gets about 15 MPG and runs on 93 octane, but I figured that for a long trip that I don’t need lots of totally rad power and whatever. So I backed the timing waaaaaay down, adjusted the fueling, and could effectively run the car on 87 octane and even achieve 20 MPG. 87 octane is waaaay cheaper than 93 or even 91 in some states and awesome on my wallet for long trips and daily driving. Is it possible for you to control your ignition timing at all to be able to run a lower octane fuel for daily commuting or long trips?

browsed forums, everyone says the engine will adjust itself but power loss is of course going to happen as well as unknown effects

Kinja'd!!! Raymundo > Supreme Chancellor and Glorious Leader SaveTheIntegras

Kinja'd!!!1

Power loss in this scenario would be a byproduct of reduced timing, but unknown effects? I think they mean detonation followed by head gasket or ring failure. If you can’t monitor or control anything, then just go with what’s recommended. I’m surprised not surprised some internet forum provided this information. If you can’t change ECU parameters yourself, then I’m afraid you’re stuck with sucky gas prices, my friend.

for a U.S. gallon of fuel , here in Australia (well Ballarat to be precise) it works out at $4.50.

and you think you’re getting shafted!

You are going to some terrible gas stations lol. Regular (87) around by me is like ~$1.75 to $1.90 right now and premium (92-93) is between $2.20 and $2.50 depending on where I go. Premium seems to vary much more wildly which is why I tend to avoid gas stations that I am not already familiar with. I did once pull into a random Exxon that had $1.81 (cash) advertised for Regular and then premium ended up being $2.75 credit. So maybe it is just Exxon that price gauges 93? I usually stick to Wawa and Sunoco since they have the most consistent pricing and good gas.

Kinja'd!!!0

Even though that is pretty terrible, the amount does not really add up to a whole lot unless you have a 40 gallon tank or something. On 10 gallons, you are paying a $10 difference (going from less than $20 to still less than $30). Compared to when regular has been over $4 pretty recently, gas is still crazy cheap!
